POSITION OVERVIEW Kiewit Industrial Engineering (K-IND) is seeking a Senior-Level Utilities Systems Engineer. We are looking for ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also utilizing these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Candidates shall have a minimum of 7 years of experience in utilities systems engineering, including specific experience with district energy, campus utility, combined heat and power, or other industrial facilities involving steam heating, chilled water, and the associated transmission/distribution systems. Candidates shall be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Candidates shall be capable of exhibiting flexibility in work assignments while maintaining a growth mindset and continuing to develop in their technical and professional career. Our rapidly growing Industrial Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities. LOCATION This position is located at our industrial hub in Lenexa, KS and may require up to 25% travel on average based on project demands. RESPONSIBILITIES o Provide design, coordination, and oversight of various utilities systems typical for district energy, campus utility, combined heat and power, or other industrial facilities with specific experience in the following:
steam heating, hot water, and chilled water transmission/distribution systems, distribution tunnels, and the associated interface with end users. o Prepare equipment specifications and detailed technical bid analyses for typical district energy, campus utility, or combined heat and power equipment including but not limited to boilers, chillers, turbines, pumps, valves, and other equipment typical for utilities systems. o Generate and check design deliverables such as PFD's, P&ID's, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards. o Support the construction team including representing the design team on-site, answering RFI's, providing creative design solutions, etc. o Coordinate, communicate, and oversee all aspects of the project's utilities systems design with other design partners (both internal and external) including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers. o Provide oversight and coordination of projects, working with the assigned design managers and project managers, to meet project budgets and schedules. o Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, mass/energy balances, preliminary equipment sizing and selection, and general facility layout/arrangement. o Train, mentor, and advise peers and support staff on proper application of district energy, campus utility, and combined heat and power industry standards and best practices. o Support the general engineering activities outside of the utilities systems specific processes/equipment required to provide a complete turn-key design. o Serve as the company subject matter expert for district energy, campus utility, and combined heat and power applications and implementation. o Provide key input and oversight for all district energy, campus utility, and combined heat and power scopes throughout project development, estimating, project execution, and startup/commissioning. QUALIFICATIONS o Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year university. o Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred. o A minimum of 7 years of industry related engineering experience. o A broad understanding of district energy, campus utility, and combined heat and power technologies and the market overall. o Specific experience in transmission and distribution system design associated with district energy, campus utility, and combined heat and power facilities. o System operations and/or commissioning experience is favorable. o Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
