Job Description:
Electrical Engineer 5 - Substation Design If worker is interested in temp to perm, they must be located within 50 miles of a BV office.
Location:
Overland Park, KS, Ann Arbor, MI, Chattanooga, TN, Atlanta, GA, Cary, NC, Jacksonville, FL, Portland, OR, Sacramento, CA, Denver COFunctions as a technical specialist or in a lead substation design role encompassing distribution, subtransmission and transmission level voltage classes.
Under general direction, develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to complex engineering problems.
Will provide technical guidance over a group or supervise engineering staff on substation design projects.
May be responsible for developing, validating, and presenting specialist/technical output.
Will lead other engineers and interface directly with clients.
Responsible for the overall execution and quality of substation projects as a leader within a team environment.
Utilize Bluebeam to QA check and design high voltage substation drawings (such as schematics, wiring, one lines, three lines, plan views, section cuts, conduit drawings, grounding drawings and material lists).

5kV-500kV) design, including physical design, protective relaying/control with an emphasis on continuous improvementAssists in developing, maintaining and updating engineering standardsProvides technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplinesIndependently applies knowledge and complies with Black and Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasksResponsible for ensuring compliance with Black and Veatch quality program while performing internal Quality Assurance technical reviewsSupport continuous improvement and change management effortsPrepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projectsPerforms complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selectionOversees collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering workPrepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principlesManages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirementsReviews lower level engineering work or assignmentsResponsible for one or more of the following:

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
Minimum of 8 years of high voltage substation design work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Must Have minimum 8 yrs' High Voltage Substation Design Experience; Preferably P&C Design but may consider candidates with Physical Design experience.
Quality Assurance and Quality Control of high voltage substation design projectsTechnical experience preferredResearch and recommendation development for equipment and/or materials selection.
Preparation of one-lines, connection diagrams, panel elevations and protection & control schematics for power substation equipment.
Preparation of auxiliary power equipment sizing calculations.
Design wiring diagrams for protective relaying panels.
Demonstrated experience with complex engineering calculations/studies related to substation projects such as:
lightning protection, conduit fill, AC/DC station service loading, surge arrester sizing and voltage drop.
Creating RTU control, status and analog point lists, raceway/cable schedules along with maintenance/signage and nameplatesPrepararation of equipment arrangement, elevation drawings, grounding drawings and conduit plans for high voltage substations.
Reviewing shop drawings, vendor quotes and perform bid evaluations.
Developing construction release documents.
Specific experience with 500KV - 13.
